  11. Am I right in thinking the designers just didn’t do their homework?

    A Design Debacle? The New Away Kit Shield Has No Historical Basis

    As a fan, I’m baffled by the new shield crest on the white away kit. It's not a throwback, and it doesn't appear to have any historical meaning. It feels like a completely new, made-up design when our club has so many meaningful historical badges to choose from.

    The designers, in my opinion, seem to have overlooked our own heritage. They’ve even re-introduced the 1980s badge as a brilliant throwback on the new third kit. They should have followed suit and, in my opinion, would have had they done their homework. Even today, new laws are being brought in because of that era—namely, the Hillsborough Law, which introduces a legal duty of candour for public officials and public funding for bereaved families.

    Instead of creating a new and historically disconnected design, they surely should have used one of our more significant badges, such as:

    * The Centenary/Hillsborough Badge: The full-colour crest with the Shankly Gates, the eternal flames, and the "You'll Never Walk Alone" motto. This badge is a tribute to a century of history and a memorial to the victims of Hillsborough. It’s also a constant and solemn reminder that the tragic count was later changed to 97 to include the fan who died years later. The fact that the club added the 97th victim shows this tragedy is still very fresh in our minds, so to create a new badge instead of choosing that one is, in my opinion, ignorance and an insult.

    It’d be interesting to know, what do you think?

    With such rich history, why create a new shield badge when we had a perfect one, like the Hillsborough/Centenary crest, to use instead?
