  1. The power of the Gakpow influences the game yet again, Iraola is figuring it out. Clean sheets are happening. Jacquet is amazing. I was starting to get excited about watching games again and we get this long international break 🙁

  2. Hands down for me the most grounded and actually tactical assesments of the squad on the internet. Not reactive. Fun. Critical and honest but no hyperbolic constantly weighing every performance as a final grade of the players whole career. Keep it up

  3. Wirtz was poor this game but he does get too much hate. Was amazing against Forest and Atleti, but that's expected because of his price tag and when he's poor people notice because of that price tag. He will gradually find his confidence to deliver week in week out.

  4. To understand why Carra's so completely wrong about Wirtz it's worth staying with the question of why he has gone in so viciously on Flo after the Bournemouth game? Let's rewind a bit first. Last season, Liverpool under Slot sunk to levels of dysfunction not seen for 70 years; from new signings like Kerkez or proven world beaters like Mac Allister, every single LFC player looked a shadow of themselves. While playing for Slot's league winning Liverpool against Galatasaray last year, Salah scored one and assisted one; playing against Galatasaray this past weekend for Trabzonspor, a team whose coach had resigned just days earlier, and presently sits at 5th in the Turkish league, the Egyptian scored 3 and assisted 1. The exception that very much proves that the problem under Slot was Slot, that it was a system issue, was the one player who supposedly shone that season, Szoboszlai. While LFC's perpetually preening VC scored 6 and assisted 7 in 25/26, 4 out of his 6 goals were free kicks, and 5 of this assists were corners, every single one of them scored by Van Dijk. In other words, over 36 PL games, our 25/26 player of the season produced 2 goals and 2 assists in open play. To put it differently, the bulk of his spectacular, vividly remember contributions came in situations where the system didn't matter, where Szobo's wand of a right foot and the generational, one-man aerial battering ram that is VVD, (incidentally, the supposedly over the hill Dutchman last season scored twice as many goals as league winning CB's Saliba and Gabriel, combined, ) could make him look like a superman. In the same dismally dysfunctional season, Wirtz scored 5 goals and put on 3 assists, all from open play, and ranked 3rd in the PL for chances created, after Bruno and Cherki. By comparison, Mac Allister scored 5 and assisted 5 in our 24/25 League winning season, when he was voted into the PFA team of the year. So, did Wirtz over the last season show that he simply wasn't cut out for the PL? No, quite the contrary. In an incredibly bad system, he did better than most, and what is more, did so very consistently. Which is where we get to Carra's pile-on, after the Bournemouth game. The record will show, and even his most opportunistically vicious detractors will admit, that Wirtz is a hard working player, who always contributes, even if he doesn't assist or score. Add to that the fact that he is our most creative player, in open play, and it is not surprising that he is nearly always at least a solid 7.5/10. Indeed, that's why he started all games that he was fit to do so last season, 27 in all, from 33 games played in total. Compare this to Cherki, with whom Wirtz is invariably compared. 19 starts in 25/26, out of 33 games in which the Frenchman was available. Because last season Pep would most often bring the Frenchman on mostly when City were in trouble; Maresca yanked him off unceremoniously during the recent Coventry game. The reason is that City often looses control when Cherki's on the pitch; despite his prodigious talents, he is a bit of a luxury player. Wirtz is not. No one runs more than him, or presses more diligently; despite his reputation as a lightweight he consistently wins the ball high up the field. Those who believe that Slot simply didn't dare but to play Flo, given his price tage, should recall that Arne had no trouble benching and yanking off the pitch LFC's highest earner and the world's best player in 24/25, Mo Salah. Indeed, why would a coach who became infamous for slating his players both publicly and privately, particularly those new to the Premier League, think twice about getting on the wrong side of a timid 22-year old? The reason for why Wirtz gets starts is that while not yet reclaiming his form for Leverkusen, in the most dysfunctional LFC side in 70 years, he is consistent. He very rarely has an outright stinker. On one of the rare days that he did, the game against Bournemouth, Carra felt that if he was ever going to get away with doing one of his increasingly characteristic hatchet jobs on Flo, this was the moment. With scenes of Wirtz loosing the ball still playing in all our minds, it was easy to make him the scapegoat of a systemic midfield dysfunction, in which the German may have looked very shaky, but in the end still did more to win the game than our knight in shining rhinestone armour, Szobo; in the moment that mattered he took out a defender, to give Isak an easy tap in. Yet with Isak, Barcola and Gakpo otherwise looking bereft of verve and invention for much of the game, Wirtz loosing the ball up the pitch looked like criminal sloppiness, whereas Macca, doing the same on the edge of our box, multiple times, could be overlooked, seeing that Aruajo, Jacquet and VVD were there to mop up after him.

  5. A lot of negative voices about Flo but did you see what an amazing job he did in funnelling Bournemouth's build-up in the firzt half? His press meant the two or three extra passes that gave us more time to get in shape thereby preventing them from running through our defense. Szobo would not have done that job any better than Wirtz. If our attack pressed as effectively as our midfield did, we would have dominated.

  6. Carragher is a gobby yard-dog who had the good fortune to be best mates with Stevie G. The idea of Carragher analysing and assessing a player like Wirtz is preposterous.

I wonder if Flo should beef up the way Mo did. It worked for Mo. I’m not qualified to judge Flo but I wonder if some of his passes don’t come off because he’s passing into space for team-mates to run onto and they haven’t yet learned to read him and make the runs. One thing’s for sure: he puts in the hard yards. He got the touch that assisted Isak to score the goal that won the match. Was Carragher busy looking in the mirror when Flo was instrumental in us getting that goal?

  7. Stop shielding Wirtz. He deserves the critics. Last season Liverpool tacticos were all out on having a dig at Salahs downfall, Caragher included. Now Liverpool have done exactly what Wirtzs needed, play him at 10 with double pivot, put fast winger on the sides and a fit striker. Salah only had 1 terrible season for Liverpool and people went on as low as highlighting his salary but for Wirtz it's alright, it's only his first season, he needs time to adapt, he's low on confidence, bla bla. He's a 115m signing ffs. He should be doing more. Even Isak has realised he's the second best no 9 in the world and cost the team 150m. Get a grip, Wirtz!

  8. How the hell did Chema Andres end up at Brighton for €23 million when our data nerds were so high on him ?. We are still paying Chiesa a huge amount for doing absolutely nothing and we should have cut him loose as a free agent and that could have easily funded Andres.

  9. I don't know… it's pretty hard to justify Wirtz as a first choice player. I'm not saying sell him or anything rash, but i do think it might be wise to take him out of the team and maybe use him as a sub for a bit. maybe he has a bit more success against some tired legs. While he was better in the second half, that first half was a hot mess.

  10. LFC have signed Wirtz, a player who has challenged the established players for their places: Gakpo on the left wing, Szobo and Mac Allister in attacking midfield.

From the outset, one got the impression that these key players (and others) didn’t want to play with Wirtz, and that’s how it’s been for the past 14 months. The only ones who want to play alongside him are Frimpong and Etikité, who, for well-known reasons, are no longer at the club. From the outset, LFC has been a dead end for Wirtz.

Beyond that, even the LFC fans reject Wirtz because he was too expensive for them, and the fact that he is German doesn’t help.

  11. Jacquet is an upgrade on Konate. What a gem, I was really nervous starting of the season if he would be up to the task. He's been brilliant !! Van Dijk has improved but he has lost his pace and we do have to manage his minutes especially towards the end of the games. I think the Gak and Sak combo has been a revelation !!

  12. This witch hunt against Wirtz is really getting to be too much for me; I’m so disappointed in our fanbase and how things have escalated. It’s awful! Fair criticism is one thing, but what’s happening right now is way over the top. I think we ought to be better than this and not treat our players—no matter who they are—like that.

  13. Ironically, Macca and Gakpo are carrying us and they ultimately are not the finished product of Iraola’s system. Macca has the aggression but does not have the speed to cover the ground over the course of a season. Gakpo does not have the speed and aggression. However both of these players have the smarts to do what Iraola wants more than some others right now.

  14. I feel that Iraola finds another way to use wirtz already, when he is not on his top form he is using him more defensive involved and drawing defenders on him while creating for others like Gakpo to do the providing for Isak to score , when he is in his form he creates imaginary cross however the ideal is good but the surrounding players still not able to connect with him on the same pace but if we go totally without him then it's only on the fighting spirit and high hard press to enable us a chance to build up for Isak or Barcola, he hadn't been that bad from the start of the season till now it's just the balls that did connect they haven't been able to finish it in the back of opponent nets ❤❤❤❤❤ anyway it's really a season to look forward to compare to Slot last few games that really drive Liverpool fans crazy and heartbroken last season , really love this Liverpool so much ❤❤❤❤ YNWA

  15. Solid start to the season so far! This one-month international break is gonna be unbearable.

Just an idea: was wondering if you could do an analysis on LFC's games so far, but… livestream it maybe? Idk. Just something that crossed my mind.

  16. I'm so positive about this team i feel every game we getting better unlike our other seasons with jurgen when we started strong then dropping form and energy half sesson we see that with slot aswell but iraola work on fitness with intensity and tactics then leaves everything on the players we see that with Bournemouth we can even win the league why not? people talking about us like we are the only team that has weaknesses but the don't pay attention to city that conceding a goal every game our arsenal that can't even attack they think this liverpool team won't progress by over time but trust me we will be a different beast after international break

  17. Kerkez is hard to beat 1 vs. 1? He won 3 duels out of 7 but what’s worse is the fact that he was both outmuscled and outsmarted going forward and in defense. Out of the 4 defenders, he is the one you want to target to win the mismatches. I worry about that side
